Kentucky Derby: Classic Mint Julep

What you need:

  • 3 Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon Mint Simple Syrup
    • Make 24 hours before: boil 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar, stirring until sugar is dissolved, about 5 mins. Remove from heat and add about 12 mint sprigs. Let cool and place in a container over night in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
  • Crushed Ice
  • 1 ounce of your favorite bourbon
  • 1 mint sprig for garnish

Place mint leaves and simple mint syrup in a glass. With the pack of a spoon gently press the leaves in to the glass. Pack the glass tightly with crushed ice. Pour the bourbon over ice. Insert a straw and place the mint sprig next to it. Dust with powder sugar.
